Project Overview
The installation comprised a 261 kWp Solar PV system installed across multiple roof orientations throughout the hospital site. Delivered over an 8-week programme, the works included full system design, DNO approvals, installation, commissioning and integration with the hospital’s existing electrical infrastructure.
About the Project
Scope of Works
Tate Electrical Services delivered the project from concept through to final commissioning, coordinating closely with NHS Estates teams, DNO representatives and hospital stakeholders throughout the programme.
Works Included:
- Full Solar PV system design
- DNO G99 application and approvals
- Installation of Solar PV arrays across multiple roof areas
- Installation of Solis inverter systems
- Installation of G99-compliant protection equipment
- AC and DC cable containment and terminations
- Integration into the hospital’s existing LV infrastructure
- Commissioning and DNO witness testing
- Installation of Solis remote monitoring platform
Delivering in a Live Hospital Environment
A key challenge of the project was delivering complex electrical infrastructure works within a fully operational hospital environment. Maintaining uninterrupted clinical operations was critical throughout the installation programme.
Tate Electrical Services implemented detailed planning and coordination procedures to ensure:
- Zero disruption to clinical services
- Strict adherence to NHS infection prevention procedures
- Controlled site access and working hours
- Safe segregation of work areas
- Continuous communication with NHS Estates and hospital staff
- Careful coordination of shutdowns and commissioning activities
The project also required close liaison with DNO engineers and NHS Capital Projects representatives to coordinate the grid connection and final witness testing process.
Sustainability Impact
The completed Solar PV system now provides a significant renewable energy contribution to the hospital site, helping reduce dependency on grid electricity and supporting the NHS’s wider sustainability targets.
Environmental Benefits
- Estimated annual generation of 225,404 kWh
- Approximate annual CO₂ reduction of 57 tonnes
- Equivalent lifetime carbon offset of over 10,970 trees planted
- Enhanced long-term energy resilience for the hospital estate
- Significant operational cost savings for the Trust
Project Outcome
The installation was successfully commissioned and integrated into the Solis Cloud monitoring platform, allowing the NHS Trust to remotely monitor system performance and energy generation in real time.
This project demonstrates Tate Electrical Services Ltd’s capability to successfully deliver complex renewable energy projects within highly sensitive operational environments while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance and programme management.
